The Border Film Project
The migrants

The Border Film Project was an initiative started by 3 students, that wanted to highlight not only what the migrants went through to try and get to a better life for not only them but for their family, but what the men (The Minutemen) patrolling the American side of the border, felt, how they viewed it as they tried to stop the migrants from entering their country illegally.
Both sides (migrants and Minute men) were given disposable cameras to document their story. Many of the migrants had never used a camera before, so they were given an impromptu lesson in the art of taking a photograph. Some were keen to show their story, their plight. AS the picture above shows, what they are willing to go through to get the chance to live ‘the dream’ of working and living in America.
Their objective is simple, they want the opportunity to live a better quality of life, and they see America as being the place that they can achieve that.
The minutemen

What it also showed was the viewpoint of those trying to stop them crossing over into America illegally. These men will camp out from sunset to sunrise, staring out into the black night, hoping to stop anyone trying to cross over. They do not engage with the migrant’s or smugglers, they contact Border Patrol with the information, and let them do their job. Their objective is simple, it is to regain control of the USA/Mexico border.
